Well, now, first of all, that ain't really us up in that picture. A very dear friend of ours put that picture up there! Angie's a whole lot prettier than that, and . . . well, we'll just leave it at that.
Now, sure 'nuff about us . . .
Down Yonder is owned and operated by Angie and Tom Woodard, who live in Eutaw in a quaint little Greek Revival cottage, Circa 1840, which is also our new "base of operations". Angie and Tom share a lifelong love of American antiques, history, and Ante-bellum architecture. Their Down Yonder inventory contains a unique blend of genuine Southern country primitives, including antique farm items, country Sheraton & Hepplewhite, Period Empire, and other 19th Century furniture styles, blended with a nice assortment and quantity of antique tools (most of them ready to go to work), crockery, kitchen collectibles, Tom's one of a kind punched tin art pieces, other uniquely crafted, one of a kind items made by Tom, antique Southern quilts (primarily of Mississippi and Alabama origin), a scattering of genuine, hand-knotted Persian rugs, signed and numbered limited edition prints, a nice selection of antique mirrors and lamps, old pocket knives, silver plate serving pieces, and other surprises.
Although we do not concentrate on "shabby chic", when we do get the right piece for it (a good, solid piece, but with a worn finish) Tom also has his own secret formula to give old furniture pieces a look which is clearly a cut above what most folks call "shabby chic" - it takes more time and labor, and more care for detail, but our "shabby chic" is superior to that offered by most folks, leaving a finish more reminiscent of country French painted pieces. [We do not, and will not, "shabby chic" a genuine antique, or any piece which still retains a good old or original finish.]
We have lots of items which can add either that special focal point to a room, or just a little character or color to your decor. Many unique decorator ideas and items! A good "hunting ground" for decorators, too.
We are always looking for the unique and the unusual, both in furniture pieces and in other antique and collectible items, making Down Yonder not only a great place to add to your own collection or to find that perfect piece for that perfect spot in your home, but also an ideal location to pick up gifts for the special folks in your life.
