Green Antiques?
by Tom Woodard
We are all becoming more and more acutely aware of "green" products, being products that do not pollute, that are recyclable, that use renewable resources, that conserve the environment, and so on. Purchasing and utilizing "green" products used to be something that "people should do" and that we were mildly encouraged to do. Now, with global warming a scientific reality, it is something that very well could be essential to our very survival.
It recently occurred to me that some of the "greenest" products you can possibly find are antiques. Think about it! No trees are cut, no iron or copper smelted, no energy used to manufacture them or to package them, and thus there are no factory emissions or chemical by-products to further pollute our atmosphere and our water. So, there's a whole new reason to invest in antiques. Doing so helps protect and preserve our environment and the beauty of God's Creation! And while you're doing your part for Mother Earth, you are also acquiring beautiful items of lasting value (and, if you buy American antiques, you are also cutting the trade deficit, because very little furniture is manufactured in the U.S.A. anymore).
