I’m on a journey, long but brief,
Filled with joy, filled with grief,
Lastly crossing the barrier reef,
Life cheating death, like a thief,
Safe in the eternal arms of God.
Many paths and roads I’ve trod,
Chastened, sometimes, by the rod,
Other times joyous, lightly trod,
‘Til I lie ‘neath the Southern sod,
Safe in the eternal arms of God.
What I sow, that I’d surely reap,
But for my God, He my soul keep,
Who for all time will let me sleep,
Whose life and love into me seep,
Safe in the eternal arms of God.
Wonder of all the wonders, now,
Keep me reflecting - ever - how,
He loves me as I before Him bow,
With His righteousness me endow,
Safe in the eternal arms of God.
In life’s later stages onward I go,
Over sunny hills and valleys low,
Rejoicing in the wonderous glow,
As blessings untold o’er me flow,
Safe in the eternal arms of God.
Then in Heaven at last I’ll sing,
Anthems to my Lord and my King,
As heavenly choruses sweetly ring,
Ever after wanting for nothing,
Safe in the eternal arms of God.
