St. Paul said, “That which I would do, I
Do not, and that which I would not do,
That I do”; and so it is with me.
What was his thorn in the side, pray
Tell? Mine I know very, very well, and
Yet it controls me more than I it.
The Book says homosexuality is an
Abomination, and so it is; but what of
Gluttony, greed, avarice, gossip, adultery;
Are not they, too, an abomination?
Do they, too, not vex and counter God?
Is it the sin of the mind, which Christ made
Clear is the same as the act contemplated,
Which vexes our Dear Lord God?
Or is the condition a thorn in His side,
And the act the sin that so grievously
Pricks and wounds the poor heart of God?
