A Few Stray Poems

Neck Down

My brother once, many years ago,
Dated a girl who was as sexy
As they come, from neck to toe,
Every curve, every line, perfect,
Sexual allure pouring from each
Pore of her perfect body;
But her face - let me say it delicately -
One could not look upon for more
Than bare moments at a time,
Before having to look away,
Such was the aspect of it, as being
So incongruous to that beautiful form,
Which was the body beneath it.

And recollecting that body, neck to toe,
Caused me to reflect on my youth,
When critical eye observed the flaws,
And found few girls beautiful,
Under such rigorous standards
As I, most painfully shy, even timid,
And without authority, imposed.

Then, moving forward through life,
And gradually gaining appreciation,
For the beauty which youth obscured,
Finding loveliness in more and more
Of those previously found wanting;
Beautiful eyes in one, legs in another,
Hair long and dark, or profile divine,
Curving back, or appealing derriere.

And yet, returning to my brother’s
Long-ago, forgotten girlfriend,
So sexually alluring, neck to toe,
Even thought of gazing upon her face,
Causes my head to turn, involuntarily,
To the side - avoiding the visage
Painfully remembered, incongruous.
